I've been doing it wrong

For nearly forty years I've been putting two spaces after a period. Turns out that's wrong. In my defense I will point out that when I started typing back in the day I was using a manual typewriter, where using two spaces is apparently not quite so wrong. Still, I have come to see the error of my ways and I will do my best to go forth and sin no more. Gonna be a hard habit to break though.

Interesting ... but a lot of what I type (and read) is monospaced email. I think it's important to include the caveat that a single space after a period is appropriate for proportional fonts, but two spaces is correct for monospaced type.

Meh. I tend to use LaTeX, which takes care of typesetting for me...although it never seems to do ellipses to my satisfaction.

In any case, when I'm not using LaTeX, I'm usually typing a text file, in an editor that uses a fixed font.
